Green Keeping Matters
Dear golfers,,
On Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st October we’ll be carrying out essential greens maintenance.
Hollow Coring and light top dressing
First we’ll be hollow coring the greens, going down 3 inches into the thatch and rootzone in order to remove large amounts of thatch. Next we’ll be applying a light top dressing of sand which is then brushed in.
Over seeding and second top dressing
After that, we’ll over seed the greens with a fescue, and bent seed mixture which will help improve the grass structure, and hopefully start to recover the bare stressed areas. Another application of top dressing will then be applied to brush the sand, and seed, into the holes.
Rolling, fertilising and grass height
Finally, once this is completed, the greens will be rolled, and fertilised with an organic granular feed to encourage recovery. When done, we’ll raise the height of cut for the greens from 3.5mm to a 5mm winter height.
Please understand this work is essential to improve the playing surfaces and conditions of the grass as we have a very high level of organic matter. Going forward the plan is to now to repeat this work, as part of a ongoing maintenance program, on a yearly basis.
Last thing to update is work also continues on tees, and we’ve made good progress having applied seed to the tees, and have had some decent germination but full recovery will take time.
